As they are newcomers to our country, we want to make sure that their integration into Canadian society is as easy and as pleasant as possible.

We believe the process of integration takes place not only in school, but outside of school as well. For this reason, we have developed some special activities to assist in welcoming these students to Montreal, our great, international city.

One day each month, they are invited, (under the supervision of faculty), to discover a specific aspect of Montreal life. One time they might visit a historic site or a museum, another, walk around observing the city's architecture, or tour its sports facilities, and always, sample Montreal's marvellous variety of food (for which it has a well-deserved, excellent reputation).

As well, in order to familiarize students with the culture of the province of Quebec, we organize short outings, such as a day trip to a "sugar shack", where they can taste some products made from maple syrup, or an overnight excursion to Quebec City during its world-famous Winter Carnival, where they can try their hand at dog-sledding and tobogganing, as well as some other typical Quebecois activities.

For us, though, one of the most important things we do each month is to provide an opportunity for the students to meet in an informal setting with other international students their own age, so that they can share their experiences and discuss any concerns they may have.

These get-togethers are centred around a meal with music which focuses on the home country of an individual student. This gives each student the opportunity to share with others some aspects of his or her own culture. In such a safe, comfortable environment, students can get to know one another, exchange ideas and provide support and advice to each other.

St. George's School wants foreign students to feel at home, and its co-curricular and extra-curricular program is designed to integrate them as rapidly as possible, so that their experience at our school and in our country will be rewarding and memorable.
